Our Christmas Fayre this year will be next Saturday 25th October in Cheap Street Church Hall from 10am to 2pm. Our Christmas cards will be on sale as well as books, cakes and preserves, and the Quilters will have a stall. For the first time, too, the young parents will have a stall to raise money for their trips and events. Tea, coffee and cake will be available throughout and soup and a roll at lunchtime. Do come along and encourage your friends to attend.
The money raised by The Friends continues to support so many of the activities of the Rendezvous as well as contributing to staff costs. A few weeks ago, for example, there was an open day at Oborne House, the Rendezvous-managed Magna Housing property for homeless young people at Castleton, at which local residents met our staff and tenants living in the House. The young people acquitted themselves well and the Friends treated them and the staff to a Chinese meal afterwards. We still buy ingredients for the weekly healthy eating cookery sessions in the Rendezvous which the boys in particular enjoy.
A couple of days ago we helped a lone parent in crisis. Our centre manager Helen has asked the Friends to set up and hold an emergency fund that the staff can swiftly access for young people in similar circumstances. Anyone wishing to contribute to the fund may send a donation to me at the Rendezvous. Cheques should be made payable to The Friends of the Rendezvous.
The Rendezvous annual report is now out. If you pop in to the Tuesday or Friday coffee mornings you’ll find hard copies available to read. Although there will be plenty of challenges ahead, you’ll see what a busy and successful year we’ve had.
