Covid-19 Update | Online learning is on its way..

We are doing our best to keep our learners learning and will launch our new online classroom after Easter (a huge thanks to the Gryphon School IT team for their help with the technology).  This means that our existing learners will be able to safely work with their tutors online and will hopefully be able to sit their exams in the summer.

Once they are all online and working hard we plan to recruit more volunteers and learners for English and Maths Functional Skills (to Level 2).  If that is of interest to you or you have any other questions about our learning programme then please get in touch with Julie.

Learning – Learning is different for everyone.  It could be about gaining qualifications, it could be about learning how to write a CV.  For others it might be about gaining some practical skills and experience through volunteering. Or, if you can’t see the wood for the trees, it might be help to unpick your thoughts and ideas and learn how to plan and prioritise to achieve your career and learning goals.

“If I hadn’t got my maths qualification then I’d be kicking around Sherborne in a dead end job watching everyone else go off and do exciting things. Not that won’t happen…”

English and Maths – The Learning Zone is a regular two hour session for anyone who wants to get an Entry level or L1 and L2 English and/or Maths qualification (Level 2 is equivalent to a GCSE pass).  Sessions take place in our bright and informal computer suite in small groups of 2 to 3.  We have a team of volunteer tutors who are there to help you achieve – we’ve got a 100% pass rate.   Sessions run from 2-4pm on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays and you’ll have access to computers and a tutor.  You can start at any point in the year and take the exam when you’re ready.

Individual Tutoring sometimes it might be difficult for people to get to our learning sessions. If that applies to you then get in touch as we may be able to arrange a volunteer tutors to give one to one study support at a time to suit you.

“It’s good that it’s 1:1 so I can work at my own pace. At school, the teacher has a whole class. If one person gets lost, there’s no time for 1:1 and so I got a step behind.”
