Community Fundraising – with cake!

Roger’s birthday

Local man, Roger Francis, was due to celebrate his 80th Birthday at Sherborne Football club.  Birthdays mean cakes and presents but as Tessa, Roger’s wife said, “When my husband reached his 80th, he told everyone he didn’t need or want presents so we decided to ask people to support a charity instead.”

“Our daughter Claire came up with The Rendezvous and knowing it was for young people, we knew right away they were the charity we wanted to support,” said Tessa.

Tessa wasn’t sure how to go about it so got in touch with us and Fiona, our Community Partnerships Manager offered advice and provide collection buckets, banners and literature to display at the event.

“The welcome and support I received from my first meeting at the Rendezvous was just amazing,” and added, “if you are thinking of doing any fundraising they will really help on the best ways to support you.”

The party was a great success and raised over £200 from Roger’s generous friends and family.  Support from local families and individual is really important for us at a time when grant-funding (our main source of income) is getting harder to find.

It really is a case of every little helps whether it’s £200 to £2000 – or even more it – it all goes towards the costs of providing support for young people.

If you think you could run a fundraising event for us then please do get in touch – we can help you every step of the way.  Get in touch with Fiona for more information.
