Our 45+ volunteer tutors are the back-bone of the Rendezvous. They are the ones building one-to-one relationships with young people who come to us for help. With their guidance, young people can achieve qualification milestones in English and mathematics, while re-building their confidence and self-esteem – opening up future opportunities.

Some 15 volunteer tutors from the Rendezvous’ Sherborne and Yeovil centres recently enjoyed a productive training day. It was a great opportunity not only for tutors to spend rare time with each other, but also to be updated on employability routes to help their learners take that all-important step towards work, college or apprenticeship.

During the day, we shared careers advice and guidance for good practice with tutors so that they can best support their learners at a point in their tuition when they are considering their next steps. The day included really valuable question and answer sessions and role play built around the National Careers Service.

We were also delighted to be joined by Chris Holman – Curriculum Area Manager for Business at Yeovil College. Chris shared his obvious knowledge and passion for training, apprenticeships and education. The tutors’ feedback was that they found Chris’s talk, and his responses to their questions, both insightful and valuable.  

Our tutors thoroughly enjoyed the day and engaged fully in all the activities. They felt that they had an increased understanding of how to best use available resources to help young people achieve and thrive.
